business was founded before independence
Keshab Mahindra, JC Mahindra, and Malik Ghulam Mohammed founded the business under the name Mahindra & Mohammed at the same time that the nation was fighting for independence. In Ludhiana, Punjab, it was founded on October 2nd, 1945, as a steel trading company. Gandhi and Nehru’s ideas had a big impact on JC Mahindra. Due to this, Ghulam Mohammad’s name was listed among the founders of the business despite his small equity in it. so that the nation’s citizens can hear the message of unity.
The division changed the name of the business to Mahindra & Mohd.
Ghulam Mohammad opted for Pakistan as soon as the country was divided, not the Company. He travelled there and was chosen as the country’s first finance minister. This Ghulam Mohammad also rose to the position of Governor of Pakistan later in 1951. Here, the company’s business was also impacted by Ghulam’s departure. The company’s name was the subject of a lot of debate. It might be a loss to rename the business given that all stationery related to it was printed with the name M&M. Finally, JC Mahindra shrewdly kept the company’s M&M moniker while renaming the company from Mahindra & Mohammed to Mahindra & Mahindra.
