The first Apple Store will open in Mumbai and Delhi: Opening on August 18; CEO Tim Cook will attend and meet with PM Modi

The tech company Apple is opening two stores for the first time in India. The first flagship retail location of the company will open on April 18 in Mumbai and the second on April 20 in Delhi. At Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries,’ Jio World Drive Mall, the Mumbai store will open. This shopping centre is situated in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. And in Delhi’s Saket, a second store will open. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, might open a store in India.

This morning, the Apple Saket barricade was unveiled. It has a distinctive design that is inspired by many gates in Delhi. The design of the Mumbai location is inspired by the city’s iconic ‘Kaali-Peeli’ taxis. It will span three floors and cover more than 20,000 square feet. The rent is Rs 42 lakh per month.

As a security deposit, the company has paid six months’ rent in the amount of Rs 2.52 crore. Every three years, it will be increased by 15%. Many of the company’s products and services will be available on a single platform in these stores. Customers can exchange their Apple devices in the store. They will also have access to the ‘Genius Bar’. This service and support is provided by experts.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a delay in the opening of Apple Stores in India. CEO Tim Cook stated at Apple’s 2020 Annual Shareholders Meeting that he does not want “someone else to run the brand for us” in India. However, due to the pandemic, Apple’s plan to open stores in 2021 has been delayed.

In both large and small Indian cities, Apple’s retail partners have operated third-party stores for years, but they have never been able to match the shopping experiences offered on Fifth Avenue in New York, Regent Street in London, or Marina Bay in Singapore. At the time, a lot of people had predicted their failure, but the company’s store opening strategy was a huge success. Tim Cook travelled to India in 2016. After seven years, he is now preparing to travel to India. During his visit, Cook is anticipated to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian government is promoting electronics production and has provided millions of dollars in tax breaks to entice Foxconn Technology Group and Pegatron Corp., two of Apple’s manufacturing partners.

No-entry of 22 brands close to Apple Store

The Economic Times reported that 22 rival brands won’t be able to open their stores or place advertisements close to Apple’s store in Mumbai. This is covered by the contract. Brands like Amazon, Facebook, Google, LG, Microsoft, and Sony are among them.

Apple is a participant in the PLI programme run by the Indian government.

The Indian government’s Rs 41,000 crore Production-Linked Incentive Scheme includes Apple’s contract manufacturers. (PLI). The increase in iPhone manufacturing in India only occurred after this scheme. The PLI Scheme was introduced in 2020 by the Indian government. Companies from other nations have the chance to profit from local manufacturing and receive incentives through this programme.

India has been producing iPhones since 2017

With the release of the iPhone SE in 2017, Apple began producing iPhones in India. Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron are its three Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) partners. Following the production of the iPhone SE, India also produced the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and iPhone 14. The Foxconn plant is in Sriperumbudur, which is close to Chennai.
