Jaipur | As of Friday, the state’s death toll from lumpy skin disease in cows had reached over 8,000, with 1.5 lakh affected.
An emergency meeting of officials and ministers had been held by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. A video conference allowed him to participate in the meeting from Delhi.
Like Covid, Gehlot said, the illness must be approached with a sense of urgency. “Both the government and non-profit organisations must provide their support to this effort. You wouldn’t run out of money at all. However, there is a lack of medication. In addition, there is no effective treatment or vaccination for the illness.”
Approximately 20 states have been infected, he added. Ministers in charge will go to the afflicted regions to raise awareness of the illness and educate residents.
On Saturday, a decision on immunisation would be made, he claimed, citing the arrival of Union minister Parshottam Rupala. The chief minister emphasised the need of educating people about the disease’s prevention.
He added the MLAs might also use the MLA area development fund to pay preventative measures.
In light of the disease’s rapid spread, he instructed sarpanches and village members to hold village meetings and initiate an awareness campaign.
