The three ODIs between India and South Africa started on Thursday (October 6). In the rain-affected match, South Africa won the last over by nine runs. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to bowl first. The match was reduced to 40-40 overs due to rain. The African team scored 249 for four in 40 overs. In reply, the Indian team could only score 240 runs for eight wickets in 40 overs. There were many exciting moments in this match. From Kuldeep’s superb bowling and his encounter with David Miller to India’s poor fielding and Deepak Chahar’s copying of commentator Murali Karthik.

Shubman Gill dropped the first catch

This match will be remembered for India’s poor fielding. It was started by Shubman Gill. He dropped a simple catch of Yeneman Malan in the ninth over. Malan could not play the ball properly to Shardul Thakur. The ball took the edge of his bat and went to Gill standing at first slip, but he could not take an easy catch.

Mohammad Siraj dropped the catch

Mohammad Siraj dropped a catch in the 38th over of South Africa’s innings. Mohammad Siraj dropped the catch of Heinrich Klaasen on the first ball of Avesh Khan. Klaasen scored 74 not out off 65 balls. He hit six fours and two sixes in his innings.

After Siraj, Bishnoi also dropped the catch.

It is not that only Gill and Siraj fielded poorly. Ravi Bishnoi also supported him. Ravi Bishnoi also dropped the catch on the second ball of Avesh in the 38th over itself. David Miller plays a shot towards mid-wicket. Bishnoi dived to take the catch, but could not catch it.

Kuldeep reminds of 2019 World Cup

Kuldeep Yadav clean bowled Aiden Markram in the 16th over. The way Markram got out reminded me of the 2019 World Cup. When India and Pakistan faced each other in the 2019 World Cup, Kuldeep had clean bowled Babar Azam on a similar ball. Kuldeep’s ball turned inside after hitting outside off-stump. The ball came out between Markram’s pad and bat and hit the stumps. The same happened with Babur. Then Kuldeep was praised by big players.

Kuldeep and Miller clash

Kuldeep bowled in the 24th over. Miller hit a four on his first ball. When he went to the non-striker’s end on the second ball, Kuldeep started sledging. Miller was also furious at this. Kuldeep was telling him something again and again. He was trying to distract Miller. However, this did not happen. Miller played an unbeaten innings of 75 runs.

Bavuma out on Shardul’s inswinger

Shardul Thakur bowled well from the start in this match. South African batsmen were facing difficulties in playing their balls. In the 15th over, African captain Temba Bavuma was clean bowled on a brilliant inswinger from Shardul. Shardul’s ball came inside after hitting the line of off-stump. Bavuma could not play it properly. The ball came out between his bat and pad and hit the stump.

Shreyas Iyer’s fifty

Four of India’s batsmen returned to the pavilion on the score of 51 runs in 17.4 overs. Shreyas Iyer took over from here. He got the support of Sanju Samson. Iyer made a quick run. At the same time, Samson was batting carefully. Shreyas Iyer shared 67 runs for the fifth wicket with Sanju Samson. Shreyas scored the 11th half-century of his ODI career during this period. He was dismissed for 50 runs in 37 balls. He hit eight fours in his innings.

In the last over, India needed to score 30 runs to win. Tabrez Shamsi came in to bowl, while Samson was on strike. He bowled the very first ball wide. After this Samson hit a six on the next ball. Samson hit a four on the second ball and hit a four again on the next ball. Samson could not score any run on the fourth ball. Samson hit another four on the fifth ball, but could not save Team India from defeat. Samson took a run off the last ball. Thus South Africa won the match by nine runs. India scored 20 runs in the 40th over. Samson fought till the end, but could not win the team. He scored his second half-century of ODI career and remained unbeaten on 86 off 63 balls.
