Ireland lost to Sri Lanka by 280 runs and an innings: the team’s biggest test victory ever, with four centuries in the contest
In the first of the two Test matches, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by an innings and 280 runs on the third day alone. In terms of innings, this is Sri Lanka’s largest victory in Test cricket. Sri Lanka now leads the two-match series 1-0. From April 24, the second game will be played.
Player of the Match was decided to be Prabhat Jayasuriya. In both innings, Jayasuriya took 10 wickets for 108 runs. A record 281 runs for the second wicket were shared by Karunaratne and Mendis.
Sri Lanka scored 591 runs for six wickets before declaring the first innings. Ireland’s response was to be forced to continue after scoring 143 runs in the opening innings. Ireland’s team was only able to score 168 runs in the second innings, which allowed Sri Lanka to record its biggest victory in history. On the third day of play, Ireland lost 13 wickets.

Sri Lankan batting order
For Sri Lanka, four players reached the century mark in the opening inning. For Sri Lanka, the highest-scoring innings was 179 runs by captain Dimuth Karunaratne. The other three scorers were Kusal Mendis (140), Sadeera Samarvikrama (104 not out), and Dinesh Chandimal (102 runs). For Ireland, Curtis Campher claimed two wickets. Apart from this, Mark Adair, Ben White, George Dockrell, and Andy McBrine all claimed one wicket.
Performance of Jayasuriya’s career to date
In the first innings, Jayasuriya took a career-high seven wickets for 52 runs. After that, he claimed three wickets in the second innings for a total of 56 runs. Ramesh Mendis, Jayasuriya’s partner in spin, claimed four wickets for 76 runs in the second innings and five overall. Mendis became the first Sri Lankan bowler to reach 50 Test wickets during this time period when he reached that milestone in the 11th game.
