To promote their upcoming comedy show on Disney+ Hotstar, Johnny Lever and Saurabh Shukla reenact a moment from Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s film Pathaan.

In their final scene together in Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan were debating who younger spy might succeed them. Salman’s Tiger and Shah Rukh’s Pathaan ultimately rejected everyone in the process. One of the best parts of Shah Rukh’s return movie Pathaan was the end-credit scene. In the trailer video for their forthcoming comedy show, Pop Kaun, veteran actors Saurabh Shukla and Johnny Lever, who are renowned for their comic timing, have hilariously reproduced Shah Rukh and Salman’s sequence.

Farhad Samji, who has directed movies like Housefull 4 and Salman Khan’s next action flick Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, is the creator of the comic series Pop Kaun. Disney+ Hotstar will shortly start streaming Pop Kaun. On Thursday, the OTT platform released a teaser showing Saurabh Shukla and Johnny Lever discussing the future of comedy in India and who would carry on their legacy while sitting on a bridge. They eventually came to the conclusion that they could not trust the young comics to carry on their legacy, much like Shah Rukh and Salman did in the Pathaan scene.

“Fasten your seat belts since the weather is not going to be bad, but comedy is going to happen,” said the description of the promo that was posted on Instagram. I’ve been doing this (comedy) for 30 years now, Johnny Lever said in the video while appearing to mimic Shah Rukh Khan from the Pathaan end-credit scene. I consider leaving all of this behind occasionally.

Yet, I worry about our replacement. The two then debate and disparage every comic they can think of, including Kapil Sharma, who ‘invite[s] people on his TV show,’ in the following conversation. “Bacho pe nahi chod sakte hai, Desh ki humour ka sawal hai yaar. Johnny Levercontinued, “The nation’s comedy scene is on the line; we cannot leave it up to the kids; we have to take action. When Saurabh questioned, “Magar kaise (but how),” Johnny Lever exclaimed, “aise (like this),” and the theme music to the show started to play.

Viewers expressed their excitement for the show in the video’s comments section. Pathaan in a parallel universe, said one. One commenter responded to Johnny’s statement in the video by writing, “Exactly accurate – eagerly waiting.”
