London. Jonny Bairstow has been adjudged England’s best cricketer for his outstanding performance in Test cricket this year and has received the Bob Willis Trophy for this award. Kent and Oval Invisibles youth player Jordan Cox has received the Young Player of the Year award, while England women’s team vice-captain Natalie Shiver has received the Women’s Cricket Award. 17-year-old women’s all-rounder Freya Kemp has received the emerging cricketer of the year award, while Hampshire’s Keith Barker has been named County Cricketer of the Year. Josh Price has been named the best disabled cricketer of the year.
Bairstow was in career-best form before getting injured, scoring six Test centuries this season. No date has been fixed for his return after being out of the T20 World Cup. It is believed that he will also miss the upcoming tours of Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Cox, who was voted the Young Cricketer of the Year, was included in the T20 squad of England that toured Pakistan. However, he did not get to play any match. Cox wants to play for England in all three formats. He said, ‘My game is suited for all types of cricket. Test cricket is supreme and it is my highest dream to play Test cricket for England.
At the same time, being a 17-year-old Kemp school, she could not attend the award ceremony. Earlier, another young female cricketer Alice Capsi won this title last year. Capsi then became the second youngest female English cricketer to score a half-century in international cricket. Shiver, who scored two centuries in this year’s ODI World Cup, got the honor of the best female cricketer. He also scored a Test century against South Africa in June. Veteran fast bowler Katherine Brunt received the Peter Smith Award for her outstanding contribution to cricket.
