Live updates on Narendra Modi’s visit to Bihar and the opening of Nalanda University: In his speech, Prime Minister Modi expressed his desire for India to become a global center for knowledge and education.

Live: Narendra Modi inaugurates Nalanda University in Bihar Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the restoration of the historic university would usher in a golden age for India after officially opening the renovated Nalanda campus. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Minister for External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar were present at the ceremony, along with ambassadors from seventeen different nations. Less than 20 kilometers from the campus, PM Modi visited the historic Nalanda University ruins before to the inauguration.

“Today, we are here to witness the revival of a global bridge of learning that can build relationships even further than in the past,” stated Union Minister for External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar in his speech.

Promoting international understanding can be achieved most effectively through education, training, and capacity building. Attending the event were ambassadors from seventeen different nations. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar praised the old university’s past, stating, “The Nalanda University has a glorious history.” The Nalanda University was recognized as the center of learning in antiquity.

Situated less than 20 km from the World Heritage site of Nalanda Mahavira, the historic university ruins, is the new Nalanda University, established in 2010. Previously, at the East Asia Summit, member nations approved a plan to create an international university modeled after its namesake, an ancient center of learning that operated until the 13th century. During his address to a joint session of the Bihar Assembly, the late President A P J Abdul Kalam proposed the resuscitation of the old university.
