In Citadel, where she co-stars alongside Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra said that she had experienced “pay parity with her male co-star for the first time in 22 years.”
Priyanka Chopra claimed that Citadel, the new Russo Brothers action drama she is starring in alongside Richard Madden, is the first time she has had pay parity with her male co-star during an interview with Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW 2023) on Friday. Following her victory as Miss World 2000, Priyanka entered the acting world and made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002). This was followed by her debut in Bollywood, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003). She will soon be seen with Richard Madden in the Russo Brothers-supported Prime Video series Citadel. The programme is marketed as a “action-packed spy series” that takes place across the world. On the programme, Priyanka mentioned “wage parity” for the first time.
Depending on who is watching, I might get in trouble for stating this. I’ve been in the entertainment business for 22 years, during which time I’ve worked on two TV shows and around 70 films. Yet, I experienced salary parity for the first time in my career when I worked for Citadel. Priyanka Chopra remarked, “I’m laughing about this, but it’s sort of nuts.
The actor continued, “I work and invest the same amount, yet I receive far less compensation. I was like, “You’re right, it’s fair,” but I was surprised by how easily Amazon Studios responded, “That’s what you deserve, you’re co-leads, that’s simply fair.”
And I ponder: Did that occur as a result of the dearth of female executives in Hollywood? If a woman hadn’t made that choice, would the debate have been different? They were not straightforward conversations to have. Jennifer Salke lauded her executive staff but retorted that she couldn’t say for what would have happened if she hadn’t been in control. At her company, she claimed to have “wonderful allies” who are both men and women.
Recently, the spy series starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden debuted its first trailer. Priyanka’s forthcoming ventures include Love Again alongside Sam Heughan and Celine Dion in addition to the web series Citadel on Amazon Video. The movie, which was written and directed by James C. Strouse, is an English-language adaptation of the German movie SMS für Dich from 2016, which was based on a Sofie Cramer novel.
