I was in the midst of the split when I was offered Samantha Oo Antava, the actress recounted.

Without Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Allu Arjun, it would be impossible to envision the popular Pushpa song Oo Antava. But, there was a period when the actress’s friends, family, and well-wishers persuaded her not to take part in the dance routine. Samantha claimed in a recent interview with Miss Malini that her well-wishers did not want her to appear in the song because it was released shortly after her and Naga Chaitanya’s divorce in 2021.

“I was in the midst of all the separation when I was given the opportunity to use Oo Antava. When the news was announced, all of my friends, family members, and well-wishers said, “You stay at home; you won’t perform an item song right after.”After I made the announcement, all of my friends and well-wishers encouraged me to stay at home and refuse to perform an item song right after you’ve declared your split, Samantha informed Miss Malini.

The actress continued by saying that even her friends, who had pushed her to join a production like Super Deluxe, were unsure if she ought to be dancing right after her divorce. “Even my friends, who generally support me and tell me to challenge myself and try Super Deluxe, even they said no. Okay, I guess I’m doing it because I figured, why should I hide? Since I done nothing illegal, why should I conceal?

I wasn’t going to disappear and wait for the harassment and abuse to stop, just to slowly reappear like someone who had committed a crime. I had no intention of doing it. Samantha was described by Miss Malini as saying, “I gave my marriage 100 percent; it did not work out, but I was not going to beat myself up and feel bad for something I did not do.”

Samantha was questioned by the host of Karan Johar’s chat programme Koffee With Karan 7 last year when she made an appearance “I liked the song, whether it was a smart move or a defiant one, Samantha replied. It was a spoof on the gaze of men. I’m aware that I faced a lot of backlash for writing a satire on the male gaze while also caving to the male gaze. My reasoning was that, aside from the nautch girl I was portraying in the song or an actor with extensive knowledge of the male gaze, who else could satirise a male gaze? The male gaze can only be parodied by a nautch chick or me.”
