clashed with non-tribal communities

On Wednesday, a Tribal Solidarity March had been organised by the All India Tribal Student Union. Conflicts between tribal and non-tribal communities flared up in the meantime. The tribal community was in opposition to the demand that the Meitei community, which is not tribal, be granted Schedule Tribe (ST) status.

The Meitei community’s request must be taken into account, and recommendations must be sent to the Centre within four months, according to a Manipur High Court order. Following this directive, conflict between tribals and non-tribals erupted.

To put an end to the violence, police used tear gas shells.

According to police, thousands of people participated in the tribal march. During this time, there was violence between tribals and non-tribals. The police also used tear gas shells to control the situation, but the violence did not stop. Following this, the army and the Assam Rifles were summoned. Mary Kom declared, “My state is on fire.”

Mary Kom, who represented India at the Olympics in women’s boxing and earned bronze, posted some images of the violence online. Nevertheless, he made no mention of the date or location of the photo shoot. My state is burning, he wrote. According to Mary Kom, the situation is dire. It is regrettable that some individuals lost family members as a result of the violence.

Manipur has more than 53% Meitei and has been requesting ST status for ten years.

According to Chief Minister Biren Singh, miscommunication between the two communities was to blame for the violence. Long-standing complaints will be properly resolved with the assistance of others. Be composed.

Describe Meitei as a non-tribal neighbourhood. It makes up 53% of Manipur’s population. The Manipur Valley is where the majority of this community’s residents reside. For the past ten years, they have pushed for ST status for their neighbourhood.

They claim that the state is having issues as a result of the large-scale immigration of people from Bangladesh and Myanmar. The Meitei community is prohibited from settling in the state’s hilly regions by current law.
