“Not one vote for the BJP, CPM, or Congress, not from teachers, not from any government worker,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s response to the Calcutta High Court judgment that eliminated 26,000 teachers’ jobs was a resounding political message. “Not one vote for the BJP, CPM, or Congress, not from teachers, not from any government worker,” the Chief Minister declared today.
The BJP, she claimed, had purchased the court — the High Court, not the Supreme Court, she swiftly stressed, “I still hope for justice from the Supreme Court”.

She then expanded on it. “They [the BJP] have bought the High Court. They have purchased the CBI. They have purchased the NIA. They have purchased the BSF. They have purchased the CAPF. They have turned the colour of Doordarshan saffron; they will only discuss the BJP and Modi ka baat. Do not watch it. Boycott it!” Ms. Banerjee stated.

Earlier this week, the Calcutta High Court canceled the 2016 recruiting process for government-sponsored and assisted schools, claiming that some of the candidates had been bribed to acquire jobs. Several Trinamool politicians, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee, and former bureaucrats are imprisoned in connection with the teacher recruitment scandal.

However, the decision resulted in the layoff of 26,000 instructors all at once. They were required to repay their salary with 12% interest. The state has appealed the order to the Supreme Court.

The court judgment might prove a game changer in the state, where the BJP, which won 18 of the 42 seats in 2019, hopes to strengthen its presence. Mamata Banerjee’s party, which has been driven on the back foot by the Sandeshkhali row, is hoping to capitalize on public outrage.

Kolkata has already seen massive protests against the court’s decision to invalidate all appointments. The protesters claim that thousands of innocent teachers, their families, and kids are suffering as a result of a few corrupt individuals.
