India’s Jaipur (Rajasthan), January 7:The Jaipur Film Festival, one of the top international film festivals, opened on January 6 and will screen up to 2205 films from 80 different nations.
This five-day film festival has already featured 25 workshops, seminars, and other events.

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the Joint Commissioner of Police in Guwahati, won first place for Hargilla, the Greater Adjutant Stork in the Best Documentary Film category. The film was produced by Meena Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, directed by Samujjal Kashyap, and had subtitling by Joydeep Mazumdar.

This documentary is based on a phenomenon that poses a significant threat to the extinction of the Hargilla species: their sudden deaths. The list of the twenty most endangered species in the world includes hargilla.

Purnima Debi Barman, a renowned environmentalist, has been leading from the front for the protection of this endangered species in a very methodical manner, and this has been considered to be a very significant step towards its conservation. The Dadara-Pachoria areas of Kamrup District are generally the habitat of this bird. She has organized local women’s support and created the Hargilla Army, a dedicated group with a fitting name.
