Two Yongmen Gored To Death During Bull Race In Shivamogga

Two spectators were killed in two separate incidents of bull running in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. This bull race, popularly known as ‘Hori Habba’, was organized without the permission of the police.

According to the police, a youth named Prashant (36) died in a bull run in Gama village of Shikaripura area on Saturday. Similarly, another youth Adi (20) died in Jade village of Sorba taluka. The bulls had hit horns in their stomach, due to which they died.

The district administration says that the organizers did not take permission from the police for this. This popular event called ‘Hori Habba’ is organized after Diwali. According to Shivamogga Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar GK, we had no information about these two programs. The organizers did not take their permission. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Karnataka Home Minister Arg Gyanendra said that the police will take necessary action in the matter. This bull or bull race is a traditional sport. The organizer should take precautions.

This game is like Jallikattu and Kambala
The Hori Habba game is similar to the famous ‘Jallikattu’ of Tamil Nadu and ‘Kambala’ of Dakshina Kannada district. In this decorated bulls or oxen are run through the crowd and people try to catch them. The bull or bull that reaches the pre-determined place while running, is declared the winner and is awarded to him and his owner. While catching them, they kill the horns, due to which many times people die.
