PM Modi Cancels Road Show And Page Committee Sammelan In Wake Of Morbi Tragedy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-day visit to Gujarat and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, on Sunday, 132 people died when a cable bridge over the Machhu river collapsed in Morbi, Gujarat. After this, PM Modi has decided to cancel his road show to be held in Ahmedabad on Monday in view of the Morbi bridge accident. Late on Sunday evening, Gujarat BJP Media Cell informed that the page committee Sneh Milan program to be held in the virtual presence of Prime Minister Modi has also been postponed.

Speaking to ANI, Gujarat BJP’s media convener Dr. Yagnesh Dave confirmed the news that there will be no festivities on Monday in view of the Morbi tragedy. Many people including women, children and elderly people are reported to have died in the Morbi accident. However, the program to dedicate 2900 crore railway projects will be as per its schedule. At the same time, the death toll in the Morbi accident has gone up to 132. BJP MP from Rajkot Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundaria said that NDRF is carrying out rescue operation.

Soon after the incident, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been directed to reach the spot. Earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office said that PM Modi has asked to closely monitor the situation and extend all possible help to the affected persons.

The PMO tweeted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other officials about the accident in Morbi. He has asked for immediate deployment of rescue teams to the spot for rescue operations. He has asked to closely and continuously monitor the situation and extend all possible help to the affected people. In another tweet, the PMO said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Morbi. 50,000 will be given to the injured.

He said that “I am deeply saddened by the tragedy of suspension bridge collapse in Morbi. Relief and rescue operation is on by the system.
