3.4 kg gold seized at airport in Kerala

Officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 3.4 kg of gold worth Rs 1.7 crore from two passengers who arrived at the Calicut International Airport in Kerala. Officials said on Saturday that the yellow metal was found in the form of a paste. He said that the passengers had arrived from Doha on Friday.

Officials said the gold was hidden in the bodies of the passengers, a native of Kasaragod and they were arrested. In a statement, the DRI said that the DRI had received a tip-off that these passengers were carrying gold and would attempt to smuggle gold through the airport.

Acting on the information, the officials stepped up surveillance at the airport and nabbed the two. A similar gold smuggling attempt was made on October 11 and 3.6 kg gold worth Rs 1.8 crore was seized, the statement said.
