On a Brooklyn subway train, a man was shot in the head by a fellow rider who had taken a gun from him, leaving him gravely injured. The New York Times (NYT) reports that the event happened during rush hour on Thursday night. The source cited Chief of Transit Michael Kemper of the police department as saying that the violence started at 4:45 p.m. (local time) when a 32-year-old man boarded the train at Nostrand Avenue station and was approached by a 36-year-old rider in a “aggressive and provocative” way.

According to Mr. Kemper, the 36-year-old began a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into a physical altercation in which he flashed a razor blade or knife before drawing a revolver.

According to a New York Post article, the 36-year-old mistreated the man and even threatened to “beat you up!”

In the video, which was shared on social media platform X, one woman can be heard imploring, “Come on, there’s babies on here.”

The 36-year-old, however, was unfazed and launched himself at the other man, forcing him onto a two-seater and striking him multiple times.

Some passengers hurled themselves on the train’s floor.

The 32-year-old managed to wrestle the gun away from the 36-year-old passenger during the altercation, and the police chief stated that the passenger “fired multiple shots.”

The footage showed at least four gunfire.

When they heard the gunshots, police officers came to the scene right away. Even before he entered the platform, the gunman was taken into custody.

According to Mr. Kemper, the shot man was brought to a hospital where he was having surgery and was in critical condition.

The two males, according to the police, were strangers.
Mr. Kemper noted that the 32-year-old has not yet been charged by the police, nor have they indicated if his acts would be regarded as self-defense.
