Bomb threat against Delhi schools: As a precaution, a number of other schools have also asked parents to pick up their children early

New Delhi: Following the receipt of an email containing a bomb threat, more than fifty schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region have sent their pupils home early today. As a precaution, a few other schools that did not receive a threat letter have also chosen to close early.
The threat emails began to arrive at the schools as early as this morning, at 4 a.m. Officials from the Delhi Fire Service, the bomb disposal squad, and the bomb detection team have all been dispatched to the schools.

As a precaution, a number of other schools have also asked parents to arrive early and pick up their children.

“Although there is no threat against the school, we are sending pre-primary children at 10.40 am and primary and senior pupils at 12 noon out of caution. Please arrive at the bus stop in the appropriate manner, the Father Agnel School sent a notice to parents.

Among the first schools to be informed of the threat were Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, Delhi Public School in Dwarka, Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi Public School at Vasant Kunj, and Amity School in Saket. Since then, an identical letter has been received by over 60 additional institutions, and it is believed that a single person was responsible for them all.

The Delhi Police Special Cell is one of the security organizations looking for the email’s source.

“The emails have several recipients listed, as indicated by the ‘bcc’ line even though they don’t have a date line. This is wrong; a massive amount of mail has been sent to all the schools in an attempt to incite fear. According to authorities, the cyber cell section is also attempting to track down the IP address and email.

Thus far, none of the schools have yielded anything of concern to the ground search teams. Parents are advised by the police not to panic because all necessary precautions are being taken.

“Parents should not become alarmed, as no suspicious activity has been discovered thus far,” Delhi Police
