In a Netflix “mushaira roast” emceed by Munawar Faruqui, Sonakshi Sinha remarks, “I wish someday she would also learn her dialogues before coming on the set,” as she roasts Sharmin Segal, the actor from Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

What transpires when the ladies of Heeramandi, who portray courtesans of Lahore in the Netflix series, attempt a modern Indian art form that is both beloved and despised: roasting in the manner of a mushaira? Aditi Rao Hyadri, Manisha Koirala, and Sharmin Segal competed against Sonakshi Sinha and Sanjeeda Shaikh, with stand-up comedian Munawa Faruqui serving as the host.

A portion of the audience has been criticizing actor Sharmin Segal, who is the niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the creator of Heeramandi The Diamond Bazaar, for what they see as a “poor performance” in the Netflix series. Recently, a video of Sonakshi Sinha—who plays Fareedan in the show—roasting Sharmin at the mushaira has gained widespread attention. Sonakshi accuses Sharmin of being unprepared when he arrived on the Heeramandi set in the video.

In the video that went viral on Reddit, Sonakshi and Munawar Faruqui make fun of Sharmin. “Sharmin wanted to wrap the set early every day,” the speaker continues. Every night, she went to bed early because she had to go to school the following day. Keep an eye on

She continues, “I wish someday Sharmin would memorize her dialogues before coming to the set, given the amount of Gen Z words she memorizes in a day.” Sharmin teased Sonakshi thereafter, accusing her of being “jaali” based on the actions of her on-screen persona.

In the Netflix series, Shermin portrays Alamzeb. Alongside Meezan Jaffrey, the actor made her acting debut in Malaal (2019). The movie had Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s support. Prior to turning into an actor, Sharmin worked with SLB as an assistant on movies like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). She has since helped on movies like Mary Kom (2014) and Bajirao Mastani (2015). Even after breaking into the acting industry, Sharmin worked with Bhansali on Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).
