The Indian government has banned 54 smartphone apps in the country. All these apps were threatening the security of India. Banned apps also include the popular game Garena Free Fire and AppLock app. Earlier in June 2020, India had banned 59 Chinese mobile apps, including several social media platforms such as Tiktok, WeChat and Hello, keeping in mind the security of the country.

These 54 apps banned in India

Among the 54 new apps banned by the government are Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer and Bass Booster, CamCard for Salesforce Ant, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Light, Viva Video Editor, Tencent XRiver, Onmoji Chase , Onmoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite. However, the list of all 54 apps has not been revealed yet.

The popular smartphone game Garena Free Fire has already been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. In such a situation, it is believed that this can also be a part of this list. However, the game’s distributor Garena International has not commented on the matter so far.

Leaking Indian user’s data

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has banned these apps because all these 54 apps were sending data of Indian users to China and other countries. It is being said that these apps were leaking data of Indian users on foreign servers. Google’s Play Store has been ordered to ban the apps.

More than 300 Chinese apps have been banned

The Government of India had earlier banned Chinese apps on 29 June 2020. On 29 June 2020, 59 apps were banned while doing the first digital strike. After which 47 apps were banned on 27 July 2020, 118 on 2 December 2020 and 43 on November 2020. Now 54 apps have been banned on 14 February 2022. Under Section 69A of the Technology Act, the Ministry of Information Technology has banned all these apps.
