Delhi Air Force Bases Celebrate 75 Years of Independence

From August 9 to August 15, 2023, various Air Force Stations in and near Delhi will celebrate the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. The “Meri Maati Mera Desh Compaign,” sponsored by the Government of India as a continuation of the commemoration of AKAM, served as the umbrella organization for the festivities.

One of the campaign’s main initiatives was the planting of 75 saplings of native species in order to create an Amrit Vatika (Amrit Garden) in each station. ‘Vasudha Vandhan’ (reforestation) was carried out in order to replenish mother earth. The seedlings were planted by members of the panchayat, schoolchildren, local residents, and station staff.

Other events planned for the stations, in addition to the Amrit Vatika, included:

The ceremony was held next to Air Force Station Palam at the Indo Korean Friendship Park. The Delhi Cantonment Board’s Mr. Sunil Kataria helped coordinate the campaign. On August 15, 2023, as part of “Veeron ka Vandan” (Salute to the Martyrs), our country’s Freedom Fighters were honored. The felicitation program was attended by retired members of the Central and State Police as well as the three services.

The events were a huge success thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the staff of the individual Stations, students, locals, and panchayat.

An appropriate memorial to the sacrifices made by our liberation heroes is the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. It serves as a reminder that it is up to us all to create a strong and thriving India. The activities that the Air Force Stations in Delhi have planned are a step in the right direction.
