CBSE Syllabus changed

The Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) has removed several chapters from the syllabus of History and Political Science from class 11th and 12th. These included the history of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Cold War times, the rise of Islamic empires in the Afro-Asian regions, the Mughal court, and the Industrial Revolution. Similarly, the impact of globalization on agriculture has been dropped from food safety in class 10th syllabus.

Translated excerpts from two poems in Urdu by Faiz Ahmed Faiz in the column ‘Religion, Communalism and Politics – Communalism, Secular State’ have also been excluded. CBSE has also removed the chapter on ‘Democracy and Diversity’ from the syllabus.

There will be no two term exams in the next session

The change in syllabus, however, signals a decision for schools to revert last year’s two-term exam to a single board for the 2022-23 academic season. Board officials had said last week that a final decision would be taken in due course of time, keeping in mind the situation.

CBSE prepares the syllabus for class 9th to 12th every year which includes the guidelines for education material, learning method as well as exam syllabus, academic training and evaluation. Keeping in view the prevailing situation, the board is in favor of doing annual valuation. A senior board official said that the syllabus for the academic session of 2022-23 has been designed accordingly.

Chapters removed even earlier, which increased the controversy

However, this is not the first time that the board has omitted from the syllabus some chapters that have been a part of it for decades. As part of the decision to rationalize the syllabus, CBSE had announced in 2020 that the chapters of federalism, citizenship, nationalism and secularism in class 11 political science book would not be considered while assessing students, leading to a major controversy. Went. However, the subject was reinstated in the academic year 2021-22 and continues to be a part of the syllabus.
