Rajnath Singh On Ship Attackers: “Will Find Them Even From Depth Of Seas”

Three Indian Navy warships, the Mormugao, Kochi, and Kolkata, have been stationed in the area to provide a deterrence in case commercial vessels in the area are attacked

New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh declared Tuesday at the commissioning of INS Imphal, the third of the Navy’s four “Visakhapatnam-class” warships, that India will find and punish those responsible for attacks on Merchant Navy ships, “even from the depths of the sea.”

“The government has taken the drone attack on MV Chem Pluto in the Arabian Sea, and on MV Sai Baba in the Red Sea, very seriously,” he stated. “The Navy has stepped up its surveillance… we will track down the perpetrators of this attack, even if they are on the seafloor.” The perpetrators shall face legal consequences.”

He asserted that India is the “net security provider (for) the entire Indian Ocean region” and that the government will “work with friendly nations” to guarantee the security of the region’s maritime traffic.

The statement was made following the Navy’s confirmation that a drone attacked the MV Chem Pluto two days prior.

According to a Pentagon spokeswoman on Sunday, “a one-way attack drone fired from Iran” struck the shit.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran, launched many attacks against the crucial Red Sea shipping route in the midst of the Israel-Gaza conflict, the most recent of which occurred 400 kilometers off the west coast of India.

The oil tanker, MV Chem Pluto, was assaulted as it was sailing from a Saudi Arabian port toward Mangaluru, Karnataka, flying the flag of Liberia. According to officials, the drone attack started a fire on board.

The ship arrived in Mumbai this morning with its 21 crew members, one of whom is Vietnamese, and the Navy’s explosive ordnance team inspected it. Pictures appeared to reveal damage to the stern (back) from what appeared to be an airborne strike, but further forensic work is needed to confirm the specifics.

According to a Navy spokesman, Chem Pluto has been given the all-clear to resume operations and will go through required inspections prior to cargo being transferred between ships. The docking process and damage restoration will come next.

According to Indian and American military officials, a drone also attacked a second oil tanker in the Southern Red Sea. This tanker was the MV Sai Baba, registered in Gabon and carrying 25 Indian crew members.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Nonetheless, three warships—Murmugao, Kochi, and Kolkata—have been stationed for a deterrent presence in the area to protect against attacks on commercial vessels.
