Shubhneet Singh, a Punjabi musician who resides in Canada and goes by the stage name Shubh, is the subject of debate over claims that he supports Khalistan. Relationships between Canada and India have been strained by this contentious issue. The singer, who became well-known in the music business thanks to singles like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheques,” has a sizable following all over the world.

On September 19, the electronics company boAt announced that it was ending its sponsorship of the singer’s upcoming tour of India. The singer’s controversal acts earlier this year, when he published a distorted map of India on his Instagram story and conspicuously left out the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and the Northeastern provinces, were a major factor in BoAt’s decision to remove its sponsorship.

The artist posted “Pray for Punjab” below the photo, for which he received a barrage of criticism on social media. Later, the musician removed the map and substituted a statement reading “Pray for Punjab” without a photo.

From September 23 to 25, the singer will perform in Mumbai as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 conference, which is being held aboard the Cordelia Cruise. He will also give performances in places including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing, destroyed posters advertising his concert, claiming that those who promote “Khalistan” had no place in the nation.

“Khalistanis, who are adversaries of India’s unity and integrity, have no place here. We won’t permit Canadian vocalist Shubh to perform in Mumbai, the blessed city of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana told news agency ANI that the organisers would have to deal with the uprising if appropriate action was not taken.

Virat Kohli unfollowed the artist on Instagram after the issue, joining fellow players KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya in doing so.

Notably, the singer’s tour scandal is taking place as tensions between India and Canada are at an all-time high. Canada removed New Delhi’s intelligence head from Ottawa on Monday in retribution for Ottawa’s accusation that India was involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. The diplomatic manoeuvre brought already strained relations between the two nations to a shocking new low.

India, on the other hand, denied the claim made by Justin Trudeau’s administration, calling it “absurd” and “motivated.” A top Canadian diplomat was expelled by India in retaliation and given five days to leave the country.
