How the Multi-Account Feature in WhatsApp Beta for Android Users Works

An update to the well-known messaging service WhatsApp that enables adding numerous accounts has started to trickle out to beta testers. Users who wish to create a second account to their smartphone right now must install a WhatsApp clone, a function available on select Android devices. Instead, a switcher for switching between the primary account connected to the smartphone and other WhatsApp accounts is part of the new multi-account feature that was included to the most recent beta version.

The messaging app, which is owned by Meta, just handed out a new beta version to testers with the multi-account capability, according to a report from WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. It is only available to a small number of WhatsApp beta testers who have updated to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.17.8, but it may spread to more people over the next several weeks. The capability appears to be activated by a server-side switch, but Gadgets 360 was unable to test it on the most recent beta version.

In the settings menu, WhatsApp will show a little downward-pointing arrow icon next to the QR code when the feature is activated. The primary account and an option to add an account are displayed on a card that appears. By pressing this button, you can sync recent messages to your phone from an account that is registered on another device.

According to a screenshot of the feature provided by WABetaInfo, the popup card, which also serves as an account switcher, will display the phone number associated with each WhatsApp account, making it simple for users to distinguish between accounts in addition to the profile picture and username. In June, it was discovered that the functionality was under development.

Previously, WhatsApp offered a “companion mode” that allowed users to add an iPhone or Android smartphone as a secondary device, allowing them to utilize the same account across many platforms. However, customers can only utilize one account per device at this time. You can “clone” WhatsApp on some Android handsets, including Samsung’s, so you can add a second account to your phone.

According to the feature tracker, the multi-account feature, which is available for some beta testers, will make it easier for users to access personal chats and work conversations if they have separate accounts, while notifications and conversations will be displayed separately.
