Users of Truecaller can record calls and transcribe them in Hindi and English

Truecaller has expanded its transcription capabilities using artificial intelligence (AI) to include call recording in India. After less than a year, the business is bringing the function to new areas. It was first unveiled in the US in June 2023. AI will enable users of Android and iOS devices to record and transcribe both incoming and outgoing calls. It is being included as a premium feature and will only be accessible to app users who have paid for it.

According to a statement from Truecaller, users will no longer need to utilize any other app to record calls because they can do so right within the app. Additionally, the business has used AI to develop a transcription tool that, when a call ends, will fully transcription the recorded conversation. It’s interesting to note that the app used to support call recording before having to remove it due to Google imposing limitations on apps that utilized an API intended for accessibility features to do so.

Both iOS and Android have distinct ways of handling the call recording feature. Users of Truecaller will need to go to the Search page and press Record a call in order to get the software to contact a recording line, which the firm says is a specific number they have supplied. This is because the iPhone operating system is more restrictive when it comes to third-party call recording. Users can then call the individual whose call they want to record and select to combine the two calls. The user will receive a push message and recording will start as soon as the call is merged. The developer of the app said that although users can make a backup on iCloud, all recorded calls are kept locally on the iPhone.

The procedure is really simple on Android. There is a separate recording button on the Truecaller dialer that allows you to start and stop recording. The app has a floating record button that users will notice if they are not using the dialer. A push notice will be sent out on both platforms once the call ends to let users know when the transcription is complete. There are Hindi and English transcriptions available. It is possible for users to share recordings with other apps, rename them, remove undesired ones, and listen to them.

It should be mentioned that real-time call transcription is already a built-in function of the Samsung devices that support Galaxy AI, the Google Pixel 8 series, and compatible models from previous generations. On the other hand, Truecaller is a paid service available to those without this capability on their smartphone. Users must have a subscription to Truecaller’s Premium plan in order to access this function, which is paid for by the app. The premium levels in India begin at Rs. 75 per month and Rs. 529 per year.
