Credent TV | The Bundelkhand Expressway, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to open on Saturday, has prompted the Uttar Pradesh government to refocus its efforts on finishing the Ganga Expressway, which would link Prayagraj in the east with Meerut in the west, by the 2025 Kumbh Mela.

Awanish Awasthi, CEO of UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), told ET that the ministry will now speed up construction on the 594-km long expressway after receiving the regulatory approval on Thursday.

According to Awasthi, “they are targeting that they would have a road from Meerut to Prayagraj for the next Kumbh in 2025.”

PM Modi lay the foundation stone for the Ganga Expressway in December of last year, just before the UP assembly elections. It would connect Meerut and Prayagraj directly once it is finished, passing via Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh on the route. It will be the sixth and longest expressway in the state.

The UP Government wants to make it easier for worshippers to go to the Kumbh, which is why it wants the highway completed by the Kumbh Mela. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, has already ordered that the mela’s preparations begin.
