In New Delhi: According to officials, 168 universities at least have chosen to use the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to admit students to undergraduate programmes, an increase from 90 universities the previous year.

As more universities are anticipated to choose the test for admissions, the current application deadline of March 12 is also very likely to be extended.

For their undergraduate programmes, 27 deemed universities will admit students based on their CUET results. According to a senior official, there are 66 private universities taking part in the CET this year, including Bennett University in Uttar Pradesh, NIIT University in Rajasthan, and UPES in Dehradun.

The exam will be held from May 21 to May 31.

In March of last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced that undergraduate admissions in all central universities would be conducted through a common entrance test rather than on the basis of Class 12 grades.

The undergraduate (UG) admissions process in universities will be completed by July 2023, and the new academic session will begin on August 1.

The first edition of the CUET-UG was held in July of last year and was marred by glitches, prompting the National Testing Agency (NTA) to cancel the exam at multiple locations. While several students were informed of the cancellation the night before the exam, many of them were turned away from testing centres.

The exam has been cancelled at some centres, according to UGC Chair M. Jagadesh Kumar, as a result of “sabotage” reports.

The CUET, the common entrance for undergraduate admissions in all central universities, has surpassed the JEE-Main, whose average registration is nine lakh, to become the second-largest entrance exam in the nation with 14.9 lakh registrations.

With an average of 18 lakh registrations, the NEET-UG entrance exam is the largest in India. The NEET is administered using pen and paper, whereas the JEE-Mains is a computer-based test (CBT) given twice a year.

In the CUET-UG 2022 exam, 21,159 candidates received a perfect score, 12,799 of whom were female. Twelve candidates received perfect scores in five subjects. Political science comes in second with 2,065 candidates, and business studies comes in third with 1,669 candidates, with 8,236 candidates receiving 100 percentile scores in English.
