The Delhi Transport Department, with the help of the police, has deployed over 120 enforcement teams (enforcement teams) to check the plying of BS3 and BS4 diesel four wheelers in the city. The move is aimed at curbing the deteriorating air pollution levels of the city. Due to air pollution, the Centre’s Air Quality Panel has directed officials in the National Capital Region to impose restrictions on construction and demolition activities as well as plying of vehicles that do not comply with the emission norms.

Enforcement teams will check their types and other specifications by uploading the registration numbers of the vehicles in the vehicle database. “All 120 enforcement teams are engaged in implementing various pollution-related measures,” a transport department official said.

high level meeting
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai took several decisions regarding the implementation of the third phase of GRAP in a high-level meeting on Sunday. Delhi’s air quality remained in the very poor category on Sunday as well. In some areas it reached the severe category. Delhi’s average AQI was 367 at 9 am on Sunday and 352 at 4 pm. The 24-hour average AQI stood at 397 on Saturday, the worst since January. The AQI in Delhi’s Anand Vihar area reached 449 on Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, the situation may worsen in the coming days due to slow wind speed and increased cases of stubble burning. In Diwali it was 354 on Thursday, 271 on Wednesday, 302 on Tuesday and 312 on Monday.

Government took many decisions
On the orders of the Central Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM), it has been decided to implement the restrictions of Phase III of GRAP in Delhi. To control pollution in the capital, the Delhi government has banned construction and demolition works. 586 teams have been formed to monitor the ban on construction works. For water sprinkling 521 machines, 233 anti smog guns and 150 mobile anti smog guns have been deployed.

two plans postponed
The national capital’s government had also planned a month-long campaign – ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ – to reduce vehicular pollution in the city. However, due to delay in approval from LG, the launch of this campaign has been postponed.

In this campaign, volunteers encourage drivers waiting for traffic lights to turn green to stop their vehicles. Rai has earlier informed that 2,500 civil defense volunteers will be deployed this year to oversee the implementation of the campaign at 100 major traffic intersections. 10 more volunteers will be deployed at each traffic signal in two shifts. He had also told that the main focus will be on 10 major traffic intersections of the city, where 20-20 volunteers will be stationed.

Earlier, preparations were made to not provide other fuels including petrol without PUCC from October 25, but there was a delay in implementation.
