By fully electrifying the railway network in the state of Haryana, Indian Railways has reached a significant milestone. The 1,701 route kilometres of the existing broad gauge network in Haryana are now entirely electrified, saving money due to lower line haul costs (about 2.5 times lower), heavier haulage capacity, increased sectional capacity, lower operating & maintenance costs of the electric loco, and a more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation with less reliance on imported crude oil.
Additionally, in accordance with the Railways’ policy of a 100% electrified network, the new Broad Gauge network shall be sanctioned alongside electrification, the press release stated.
