On the dialer screen of the Google Phone app, users have reported seeing WhatsApp call logs in addition to regular phone calls

For its Phone app, Google may be exploring two new features. It has been reported that the Google Phone app now displays call history from WhatsApp alongside regular calls. Additionally, a new video call shortcut that sends calls to Google Meet has been noticed by certain users on the call screen. A select group of people who enrolled in the tech giant’s Android Beta Program seem to have received access to these new features. Additionally, the business just released a few new features for Google Drive.

9to5Google reported the two functionalities together based on tweets made by other users on X (previously known as Twitter). According to the article, the capability has started to appear on certain other devices, including Pixel phones. The user @Kishore9196 noticed the call history function on WhatsApp and shared a screenshot of it.

The Google Phone app’s call logs are visible in the screenshot. There was a specific call with the label “WhatsApp,” which displayed the carrier and channel details. The log also showed all the other standard features, such as messaging, calling, video calling, and history. This suggests that Google may be developing an integrated call log, though it’s unclear if support will only be available for WhatsApp or if other messaging services like Telegram and Signal would also be supported.

In response to a comment, the user declared that he was using WhatsApp 2.24.6.6 and Google Phone v124.0.608164421-publicbeta as beta testers. It’s interesting to note that iOS has had an integrated call log function for a while.

Tipster Mishaal Rahman revealed the second feature, and several users corroborated it. Rahman stated, “For some users, the Phone by Google app is beginning to display a new “video call” chip during phone calls.” By tapping this chip, you can immediately invite the person you’re contacting to a Google Meet call by opening a page. On a Google Pixel 5a running the Phone app in beta, the capability was observed. This shortcut appears to allow users to go to the video calling app while on the calling screen, even though the app already allows users to make Google Meet calls.
