Rick Osterloh of Google revealed that he met with Samsung’s TM Roh to discuss collaboration on AI and other prospects

Google and Samsung are cooperating to create and roll out new artificial intelligence (AI) experiences for Android and Galaxy smartphones. The two tech titans first collaborated for AI with Circle to Search. The visual lookup function lets users draw on the screen to conduct a Google search. While it was developed by Google, it debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series before the Pixel 8 series. Now, the two companies have stated that they will collaborate to develop additional AI features for the ecosystem.

Rick Osterloh, Google’s Senior Vice President of Platforms and Devices, tweeted this image on X (previously known as Twitter) with TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. In the caption, he said, “Had a fantastic conversation with TM and @SamsungMobile leadership. Our collaboration has never been stronger. I’m excited about our AI relationship and the various benefits it will provide for both firms.”

Later, Samsung Mobile’s official X handle shared the image, underlining that both firms share a vision for AI in the Android and Galaxy ecosystems. The smartphone manufacturer also suggested that they were developing intriguing AI features. Some of these could be presented during Google I/O, which takes place on May 14. During this occasion, the tech giant will also reveal Android 15 and new operating system features.

In addition to collaborating, both companies are developing AI-focused goods and services. Samsung released its Galaxy AI suite of capabilities for the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year, and it has now been expanded to include other devices. Aside from Circle to Search, it included Live Translate, which enables for two-way, real-time speech and live caption translations of phone calls. Samsung’s AI-based photo editing feature Generative Edit, as well as Chat Assist in Samsung Keyboard, were added via Galaxy AI.

Google has also been developing AI features for the Android ecosystem. Recently, a report suggested that the corporation is working to improve its Gemini AI Assistant. According to the source, the Gemini for Android could have a floating window, a Live quick feature that allows for quick scheduling, and more.
