Mumbai: Congressman Ro Khanna, an Indian-American, stated that relations between the US and India are at their “highest point” as he led a bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers visiting India to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech at the Red Fort.

Mr. Khanna and Michael Waltz, co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, are equally in charge of the congressional delegation.

“This is personal to me because my grandfather participated in the Indian freedom fight and spent years in prison. The momentum created by PM Modi’s US journey will be continued with the assistance of this delegation. President Biden is also expected to visit this area in September, according to Mr. Khanna, who spoke exclusively to NDTV.

Amarnath Vidyalankar, a 46-year-old politician, collaborated closely with renowned freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai and served two years in prison during the Quit India campaign.

The former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s address, “Tryst With Destiny,” which he gave just before midnight on the eve of India’s independence in 1947, was something Mr. Khanna, a representative for California in the US House of Representatives, claimed he read as a child.

“I read the speech as a child. “When the world goes to sleep at the stroke of midnight, India will awake to life and freedom.” So it would be wonderful to be there with PM Modi,” he said.

On Capitol Hill earlier this year, Mr. Khanna and Mr. Waltz convened a historic US-India Summit. Government officials, academics, and Indian-American leaders from across the nation spoke on panels and gave keynote addresses at the summit.

We will continue to discuss with PM Modi the unique alliance that exists between the US and India in the areas of cricket, technology, economy, and democracy. These values were fundamental to the establishment of both the United States and India, he continued.

The two countries’ relationship is at its pinnacle right now, he continued. “Economic collaboration is at an all-time high. Instead of China, people are looking at India as a hub.

India and China’s border dispute was referred to as a “shared security concern” by Mr. Khanna.

The government has greatly improved its border infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China during the past nine years, enhancing its military readiness to counter any security threat, according to last week’s statement from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

According to Mr. Jaishankar, by persistent diplomatic and military communication over the past three years, India and China have significantly advanced in de-escalating tensions and settling five to six sources of friction in eastern Ladakh.

China is a consideration. Another issue that India is worried about is China crossing the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh. A significant concern is Taiwan. The US and India have a connection that goes beyond just having similar security concerns. We are meeting with cricket and Bollywood celebrities to talk about culture and technology for this reason, Mr. Khanna said.

On a lighter side, the US Congressman added that meeting Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan will be the “highlight” of his trip.

A resolution to declare August 15 as a National Day of Celebration of the World’s Two Largest Democracies was introduced earlier this week in the House of Representatives by a group of US politicians led by Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar.
