Javed Akhtar addressed the audience and spoke about the “resentment in Indians’ hearts” as he discussed reducing tension between the two nations

New Delhi: Popular author and poet Javed Akhtar’s frank remarks on 26/11 terrorists “roaming free” in Pakistan and the resentment in Indians’ hearts have gone viral on social media.
This week, Javed Akhtar travelled to Pakistan to attend a festival in Lahore honouring the late Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

During a conversation, the well-known poet discussed reducing tension between the two nations and claimed that Pakistan couldn’t hold India responsible for its irate citizens.

In response to a comment made by a spectator, he said: “You’ve been to Pakistan so frequently. Do you explain to your people that these are lovely people who aren’t just bombing us but also welcoming us with flowers and affection when you return home?”

In response, Javed Akhtar “No one of us should take the guilt. There will be no solutions. There should be some calm in the stressful situation. We are Mumbai residents who saw the attack on our city. They (the assailants) did not originate in Egypt or Norway. They are still allowed to travel about in your nation. Hence, you cannot complain if the Hindustani gets angry.”

He emphasised that Pakistan had not welcomed Indian artists in the same way that India had done for Pakistani icons.
