Two hikers captured the sighting of a deer whose face was completely frozen over on camera and posted it to Reddit. It’s believed that the deer was attempting to use its head to dig for food beneath the snow when its face became covered in ice. The animal backed off as the hikers got close to it out of fear. But eventually, the two men managed to seize the helpless animal and free it from the ice that had been covering its face. After that, the relieved animal could be seen escaping.

Reddit commenters praised the hikers’ actions and thanked them for sparing the deer’s life. I wonder whether humans are the only species that help other creatures out of sheer empathy, as one user put it. Although I’m sure we’re not, I do believe it to be a lovely aspect of humanity.
