Delhi, New: Social media users have been able to access an undated video of Italy’s prime minister Giorgia Meloni stating that there is a “compatibility problem” between Islamic culture and European civilisation’s ideals and rights.

In the old footage, the Italian Prime Minister could be heard speaking in Italian. The video first came to light one day after her right-wing, ultra-conservative Brothers of Italy group planned a gathering in Rome on Saturday. The prime minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, was also present.

“I believe there is a problem of compatibility between Islamic culture or a certain interpretation of Islamic culture and the rights and values of our civilisation,” she is heard stating in the viral clip.

“It does not escape my mind that most of the Islamic cultural centres in Italy are financed by Saudi Arabia,” she stated.

Meloni also criticized Saudi Arabia’s strict Sharia law, which makes homosexuality and apostasy crimes, in the video. Sharia law, also known as Islamic law, is a body of rules and guidelines derived from the Quran and Hadith, which are considered to be the founding religious books of Islam.

Sharia entails the death sentence for homosexuality and apostasy and the practice of lapidation for adultery. These, in my opinion, ought to be brought up without making generalizations about Islam. It entails bringing up the issue that Europe is seeing an Islamization process that is extremely at odds with the principles of our civilization,” the speaker stated.

According to declarations from both nations, Britain and Italy announced intentions on Saturday to cooperatively co-finance the return trip for migrants who became stranded in Tunisia. The announcement did not specify the exact amount of money that would be paid, though.

“If we do not address this issue, the numbers will continue to rise. It will surpass our nations and our ability to assist those who truly require it most, according to Rishi Sunak.

“Doing things differently and defying consensus will be necessary to make that deterrent credible. And Giorgia and I are ready to go ahead and do that.”

To talk about migration, the two leaders also met with Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania.
