Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd awarded NLC India Ltd, a Navaratna CPSE, an 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project with a capacity of 50 billion units of power
By acquiring an 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project, NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), a Navaratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Coal, recently accomplished a tremendous milestone in the field of renewable energy. This project represents a significant advancement in NLCIL’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions and was granted by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL).
The RRVUNL floated a bid on December 21, 2022.
On December 21, 2022, RRVUNL filed a tender for an 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project, which marked the beginning of the journey towards this accomplishment. The project is advantageously situated in Rajasthan’s Bikaner area, which is well-known for its high potential for solar radiation. With its knowledge of and commitment to renewable energy, NLCIL was able to effectively secure the entire capacity, establishing itself as a significant player in the state’s renewable energy market.
Efforts in Collaboration: The Letter of Intent (LoI)
The Letter of Intent (LoI) issued by RRVUNL is an important development milestone for the project. This letter reaffirms NLCIL and RRVUNL’s dedication to seeing this large-scale solar project through to completion. The land required for the project and the power evacuation system connected to the State transmission utility will be provided by RRVUNL as part of this collaboration.

NLCIL’s Biggest Renewable Energy Project: Scaling New Heights
The greatest renewable energy project NLCIL has undertaken is the 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project in Bikaner. The overall power plant capacity in Rajasthan will increase with this addition to 1.36 GW, of which 1.1 GW is green power. This large expansion in renewable energy capacity will boost economies of scale, optimise fixed costs, and increase the availability and affordability of renewable energy.
Impact on the Environment: A Greener Rajasthan
This project’s location in Rajasthan, which receives a lot of solar radiation all year long, is one of its main advantages. The Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF) of the project is expected to be greatly improved by this location. The project is anticipated to produce more than 50 billion units of power during its lifetime. Additionally, it would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 50,000 tonnes, making Rajasthan a cleaner and greener place.
The Commitment of NLCIL to Renewable Energy
NLCIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, emphasised the commitment of the organisation to renewable energy. By installing 1 GW of renewable energy capacity, NLCIL became the first Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) in history. This project is one of the additional 2 GW of renewable energy capacity that the company is actively building throughout India. By 2030, they hope to have more than 6 GW of renewable energy capacity. This is completely in line with the Union government’s aim to increasing the nation’s capacity for renewable energy.
