Religion-based reservations were denounced as “unconstitutional” by Amit Shah, who was speaking to the crowd at the rally in Chevella, close to Hyderabad.Delhi and Hyderabad: On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah vowed to end Muslim Telangana reservations if the BJP wins the state’s next election.

Religion-based reservations were denounced as “unconstitutional” by Amit Shah, who was speaking to the crowd at the rally in Chevella, close to Hyderabad. If the party is elected to power in Telangana, he claimed that the party will abolish the 4% Muslim quota and grant the right to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and other backward communities. According to Mr. Shah, “This right belongs to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and OBC.”

The Home Minister criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) government, accusing it of corruption in a number of projects, and declared that the BJP will continue to fight until the “corrupt” government is “dethroned.”

Additionally, he claimed that the Telangana Center’s welfare programmes were not reaching the poor.Amit Shah charged that the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM “agenda” was being carried out in the state by the K Chandrashekar Rao administration.

“No government in Telangana can function if Majlis (Owaisi) is in charge of policymaking. Majlis doesn’t scare us at all. The people of Telangana will be the focus of the state’s administration. Owaisi will not be supported,” Mr. Shah said.Mr. Owaisi retaliated against the home minister for his pledge to end the Muslim quota in the state by claiming that the BJP has no plans for Telangana other than to engage in “anti-Muslim hate speech.”

In addition to hate speech against Muslims, the BJP has no plan for Telangana. All they have to offer is fake encounters, attacks on Hyderabad with surgical precision, curfews, the release of criminals, and bulldozers. Why do you despise Telangana residents so much? he questioned.

In order to remove the 50% quota ceiling, Mr. Shah should propose a constitutional amendment if he is serious about providing justice for SCs, STs, and OBCs. According to Mr. Owaisi’s other tweet, reservations for backward Muslim groups are based on empirical data.

Later this year, Telangana will hold its assembly elections.

Ahead of the May 10 assembly elections, the BJP-controlled Karnataka recently decided to divide the 4% Muslim reservations equally between the two largest Hindu communities. The Supreme Court criticised the decision earlier this month, saying it appeared to be “highly shaky ground” and “flawed”.

The court also pointed out that the Karnataka government’s choice went beyond the landmark 1992 ruling by the Supreme Court that set a 50% cap on reservations.

The BJP-led Karnataka government, which is headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, has defended its choice by claiming that it was made in accordance with a commission’s recommendations after looking into the socioeconomic standing of various communities in the state.
