The 2.23.8.2 update to WhatsApp for Android is said to include the new feature

A new feature that would give users more control over private conversations is reportedly being developed by WhatsApp. Users may soon be able to lock specific chats using their fingerprint or passcode on the instant messaging app owned by Meta. The lock feature would make it simpler for users to protect their privacy. Currently, a passcode, face ID, or fingerprint can be used to lock the entire app on a smartphone. A beta version of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.23.8.2, which is accessible through the Google Play Beta program, has been found to contain the new feature. However, testers are not yet able to access it.

A new feature that will enable users to lock specific chats using their fingerprint or passcode is being developed by the instant messaging service WhatsApp, according to a report by features tracker WABetaInfo. According to reports, WhatsApp will be releasing the feature via the Google Play Beta Program starting with the Android v2.23.8.2 beta. Beta testers cannot see it yet.

Users will be able to lock and hide their private chats from others once this feature is available. Users can lock specific chats rather than the entire app to protect private conversations from prying eyes. Additionally, media files sent in a locked chat, such as photos and videos, won’t be automatically saved in the device gallery. A screenshot of the updated privacy setting feature is included in the report.

The locked chats are displayed in a separate section, much like Archives, in the screenshots. When a chat is locked, only the user’s fingerprint or passcode can be used to open it. They will reportedly be prompted to clear the chat in order to open it if they attempt to access these locked chats on WhatsApp and their authentication is rejected.

This feature is reportedly being developed by WhatsApp and will probably appear in a subsequent update. Before the official release, it might also get updated.

Recently, it was discovered that WhatsApp was developing a text editing feature for a small group of beta testers in tandem with the Android 2.23.7.17 update. With the new feature’s new tools and fonts, users will be able to edit pictures, videos, and GIFs. Additionally, an exclusive Audio Chat feature is planned for release.
