Kolkata: State-run SSKM Hospital director Manimoy Bandyopadhyay clarified today that he only meant that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may have felt “a sensation of push” after saying the previous day that she had fallen at her Kalighat residence “due to some push from behind” and sustained injuries to her nose and forehead.
On Thursday night, Mamata Banerjee, 69, fell inside her Kalighat home in South Kolkata and broke her nose and forehead badly.

“This feeling of being pushed from behind caused Ms. Banerjee to collapse. It is our responsibility to treat, and we have. What I said last night was misunderstood,” Dr. Bandyopadhyay stated.

According to the SSKM director, Banerjee suffered “a fall within the vicinity of her home due to some push from behind” on Thursday night.

The “push from behind” theory put forth by Dr. Bandypadhyay caused widespread consternation and conjecture over the reason behind the downfall of the Trinamool Congress supremo.

After undergoing obligatory medical procedures at the hospital, such as radiography of her brain and ECG, she was released after receiving three stitches in her forehead and one in her nose.

“The CM’s medical state is steady. Because senior doctors were closely monitoring her the entire time, she slept well that night. Another evaluation of her condition will be conducted,” the official said to the news agency PTI on Friday.

When questioned about the fall-related rumors around the chief minister, a police officer told Press Trust of India, “A complaint has not yet been filed in relation to her fall.” The area surrounding the CM’s home is now more secure.”
