The Maharashtra government grants Marathas a 10% reservation

A plan that would give Marathas 10% reservation in government jobs and education is approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet, going above the 50% threshold

A draft bill to grant the Maratha community a 10 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions has been approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet. This action is in response to a report that the Maharashtra Backward Class Commission (MBCC) filed supporting the extension above the 50 percent threshold.

Special Meeting in Reaction to Hunger Strike by Activists
In response to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil’s hunger strike, the government has called a special session of the state assembly to propose the bill.
The administration has acted quickly to fulfil Patil’s demands as a result of his protest in the Jalna district’s Antarwali Saarati village.

Maratha Community and Current EWS Quota
The Economically Weaker Section (EWS) currently receives ten percent of governmental funding; the Maratha community is the main beneficiary of this allocation.
Eighty-five percent of this reservation is claimed by marathas, indicating that they are a substantial group under the EWS category.
