‘SWAYATT’ promotes start-ups on GeM: The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) celebrated “SWAYATT,” a programme to help start-ups, women, and youth gain an edge through e-Transactions on GeM

‘SWAYATT’ promoting start-ups on GeM.

To commemorate “SWAYATT,” a programme to promote start-ups, women, and youth advantage via e-Transactions on GeM, which has been a huge success, the government e-Marketplace (GeM) organised a party. A programme called SWAYATT aims to boost the advantages of electronic transactions on government e-Marketplaces (GeM) for new businesses, women, and minorities.

SWAYATT’ turning to be a huge success: Key Points

1 It is significant to note that the GeM promotes social and financial inclusion by registering more than 8.5 lakh Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) on the GeM platform and assisting MSEs in securing over Rs. 1.87 lakh crore in sales distributed across 68 lakh+ orders.

2 Radha S. Chauhan, Secretary, Ministry of Personnel and Training, served as the event’s principal guest.

3 P.K. Singh, CEO of GeM, addressed the group and spoke about the progress made thus far in promoting social and financial inclusion through the registration of more than 8.5 lakh Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) on the GeM portal, which have been successful in receiving more than Rs. 1.87 lakh crore in business spread across 68 lakh+ orders.

4 According to Singh, about 43K SC/ST MSEs have fulfilled 1.35 lakh+ orders totalling 2,592 crore on the GeM platform, while over 1.45 lakh women MSEs have fulfilled 7.32 lakh orders totaling 15, 922 crore.

5 Initiatives by the GeM to promote the engagement of underrepresented seller groups, such as MSEs, women, divyangjan and tribal entrepreneurs, startups, self-help groups, artisan and weavers, and so on, and to offer them with direct access to government contracts.

6 She went on to say that growing the GeM order book from Rs. 422 lakh crore in 2016-17 to the current Rs. 1.70 lakh crore up to February 2023 has been nothing short of a miracle, and that it would not have been possible without the hard efforts of the whole GeM team.

About SWAYATT.

The “Startups, Women and Youth Advantage Through eTransactions” (SWAYATT) on GeM campaign was initially unveiled in February 2019. SWAYATT 2019 sought to promote inclusivity of various categories of sellers and service providers on the portal, foster women’s entrepreneurship, and encourage participation of MSME sector and start-ups in public procurement by taking proactive measures to make their training and registration of such specific category of manufacturers and sellers easier.

About GeM.

GeM was founded as a section 8 corporation and placed under the administrative control of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for the purpose of obtaining goods and services for Central Ministries, State Departments, PSEs, and Autonomous Bodies. GeM prioritises social inclusion with a focus on increasing participation from underprivileged sellers who face obstacles in public procurement.

Progress So Far

Improved Business Opportunities: Around 8.5 lakh Micro and Small Businesses (MSEs) have registered on the GeM platform, with over Rs. 1.87 lakh crore in business spread across 68 lakh+ orders.

Women’s empowerment: More than 1.45 lakh female MSEs completed 7.32 lakh orders totaling $15,922 billion.

SC/ST empowerment: To date, 43000 SC/ST MSEs have fulfilled 1.35 lakh+ orders totaling $2,592 billion on the GeM platform.

Market to Farmers: With GeM, 105 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) can currently offer the Government more than 200 Agro goods.

What is Government e-Marketplace?

GeM is an online market platform that was established in 2016 to simplify government ministries, departments, public sector enterprises (PSU), etc., purchasing of products and services.It is intended to serve as India’s national procurement portal.

It was created by the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Directorate General of Supply and Disposals with assistance from the National E-Government Division (Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology).

It is managed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Directorate General of Supply and Disposals (DGS&D).GeM is an entirely digital, cashless, system-driven marketplace that makes it possible to buy everyday goods and services with little to no human interaction.
