Jaipur :- Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is a vibrant and significant festival, especially in North India, celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm amongst people across India. It marks the commencement of the harvest season and the beginning of the solar New Year in parts of North India.

The celebrations of Vaisakhi are vibrant and colourful, characterised by traditional music, dance, and communal feasts, hence, bringing people together to celebrate the harvest and the rich cultural heritage. It includes vibrant processions, folk music, and langar meals, fostering community spirit and gratitude. This is one of the major festival celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor by Sikh community people. They celebrate this day by offering prayers, farmers show gratitude, prepare various types of savouries and dishes, show their happiness by dancing, singing and distributing sweets to their loved ones.

The vibrant festival of Vaisakhi was celebrated in DAV Centenary Public School, Jaipur, on 12th April 2024 to imbibe in our children the values and ethos of every culture and community and to make them aware of the spring harvest festival in all its essence. Well-planned activities to acquaint the students with this harvest festival were conducted at all levels. The activities were consciously designed to nurture the students’ curiosity about Vaisakhi and stimulate their creative skills in gaiety. The school premises wore a festive look with the compound decorated with items depicting the heritage of Punjab.

The students were welcomed with the beats of dhol, which brought vibrancy to the environment.  Students  were clad in traditional Punjabi outfits that added to the feel of the festive occasion.

A special assembly was conducted by the students to welcome the harvest season. The students highlighted the religious and cultural significance of the festival in an enlightening speech. A beautiful poem was recited which added flavour to celebration. On the onset of Sikh New Year and the founding of the Khalsa Panth, the students performed the traditional Bhangra, which depicted the real life of farmers of Punjab.They were told about the various aspects of this harvest festival. The motive behind the celebrations was to apprise the students of the rich culture and heritage of Punjab.

The Principal Mr.A.K. Sharma applauded the students for their performance and   conveyed his best wishes to all and blessed everyone with the bounty of the season and a harvest of joy and prosperity.
